The Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Bank will be staffed by a multidisciplinary team, including consultant surgeons, resident staff, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and paramedical personnel. Equipped with advanced technology, the department aims to provide the most effective and safe transfusion services. This department administers and/or facilitates the following services.

Outpatient department (OPD) services

Regular OPD consultations will be provided, along with community outreach through free health camps and mobile OPD services. Teleconsultations will enhance access for remote patients. The department will also feature a dedicated thalassemia clinic and provide transfusion specialist consultations.

Inpatient department (IPD) services

Our IPD will deliver personalised care under the guidance of expert consultants. Admission options will be available for self-paying patients, individuals under government health schemes (like Swasthya Sathi and Ayushman Bharat), and private health insurance-holders. Facilities include ICUs, HDUs, general wards, and private cabins. Services will include transfusion management for critically ill patients, those with thalassemia, haemophilia, autoimmune disorders, and platelet disorders, as well as support for major surgeries and coagulation issues.

Investigation services

The department will offer a range of diagnostic services for both patients and donors, including blood donation facilities with postdonation counselling, a blood donor registry for positive & negative blood groups, and multicomponent collections. Comprehensive testing options include blood grouping, cross-matching, antibody screening, direct & indirect Coombs tests, minor phenotyping, and the evaluation of transfusion reactions. A rigorous quality assurance programme will uphold the safety and adequacy of all transfusion services, with specialised care available for paediatric transfusions.

Operating theatre (OT) and intervention services

Specialised procedures available will include the following.

Research & development (R&D)

Our R&D efforts will focus on advancing translational research, aiming to accelerate the integration of lab discoveries into clinical care. Research will emphasise biologic bone substitutes, stem cell therapy, and other innovative treatment options.

Education

Education will be a core component of the department’s mission. Regular workshops and advanced courses on interventional techniques will be organised. Continuing medical education (CME) programmes will include guest lectures and updates for family physicians. Community symposiums will increase public awareness about blood health, the importance of preventive care, and when to seek medical intervention.
