The Department of Pulmonology will provide a full range of diagnostic & treatment services to support respiratory health. Our dedicated team of consultants, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and paramedical professionals will deliver high-quality care. Services made available and/or provided by this department include the following.
Outpatient department (OPD) services
We will offer regular OPD services, alongside community outreach through free health camps in nearby areas and mobile OPD services for expanded accessibility. Teleconsultations will be available to further improve access to care.
Inpatient department (IPD) services
The IPD will cater to patients requiring intensive or extended care, with admission options for self-paying patients, those covered by government health schemes (such as Swasthya Sathi and Ayushman Bharat), and individuals with private health insurance plans.
Investigation services
Round-the-clock access to haematology, microbiology, pathology, and radiology services will be provided to support accurate diagnosis. The department will be equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and technology, including endobronchial ultrasonography, bronchoscopy and videobronchoscopy with biopsy and cytology capabilities, sleep-clinic facilities, and noninvasive ventilation. The diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO) test, also known as the transfer factor of the lungs for carbon monoxide (TLCO) test, will also be available for assessing lung function. Thoracic imaging services, including CT and MRI scans, injected radionuclide imaging, inhaled diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) measurement, and ultrasonography imaging for respiratory assessments, will enhance diagnostic accuracy.
Operating theatre (OT) and intervention services
A fully equipped thoracic surgery unit will work closely with our oncology department for cases requiring medical or surgical intervention. The following respiratory conditions will be managed through advanced interventions and surgery as necessary.
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Asthma
- Lung cancer
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Pulmonary fibrosis
- Emphysema
- Combined pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema (CPFE)
- Sleep disorder
- Occupational lung diseases
Research & development (R&D)
The department will emphasize translational research, aiming to transition findings from laboratory research to clinical applications, thereby enhancing patient care through innovative therapies.
Education
Educational initiatives will include regular workshops, advanced training courses, and continuing medical education (CME) sessions. In the future, we plan to introduce the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) courses and various paramedical courses in pulmonology to foster the next generation of specialists. Guest lectures and public symposiums will further support family physicians and promote community awareness of pulmonary health and preventive care.
